After the Crossing of Worlds and the foiling of Loralae the Winter Queen’s plot against the wedding of Andal, son of Oberon and Titania, to Princess Syldari, daughter of Shael and Nae, two queens met by chance on the branches of the World Tree. The Tree’s vast limbs formed living highways between the realms, thick with silver-green leaves that caught stray starlight and turned the paths into tunnels of soft twilight. Queen Nae of the Elves walked one branch, her deep-blue robes embroidered with runes of power and a crown of crystal and starlight resting on her brow. Queen Titania of the Fae came along another, dressed in flowing green and gold that smelled faintly of wild meadows and summer rain. Their paths joined at a wide crossing where the boughs met like the arms of old friends, and there they stood face to face in the quiet glow.
